About

This website features personal projects that utilize knowledge and skills that I gained from 25 years of involvement in research on wildlife ecology (mostly birds) and conservation biogeography. I’m interested in how public datasets can be tapped to answer basic questions about where species occur and changes in landscapes and species distributions.

I carefully consider the spatial extents and resolutions of individual projects as they relate to relevance for human perspectives and decision making, because the results of spatial investigations are often sensitive to the level of analysis. I am primarily focused on the area where I live (Carrboro, NC), but also explore questions at ecoregional, state, and national levels.
